Days 4-8

Just catching up. I was in NYC all weekend without my computer and then I was just lazy Sunday night and yesterday. So lots of insanity today. Still haven't watched Merlin. I'll get to it tomorrow, maybe.

The weekend was fine. Weather was shitty all day Saturday. Sadly no snow, just rain. And there's nothing on the ground here. Boo. Almost makes me wish I was still in Vermont. We barely left the apartment. Got ridiculously stoned Saturday morning and then again that night. Two weeks without weed makes me crazy. Or whatever strain that was. All of my insecurities came out. I apparently have a lot of problems with The Real Housewives of Atlanta. Oh well.

Day 01 → Your favourite song
Day 02 → Your favourite movie
Day 03 → Your favourite television program

Day 04 → Your favourite book

I could have taken the easy route and said Harry Potter, because honestly that series will probably always be at the top of the list. But I think everyone should read this book. It has everything you could want. Romance, heartbreak, dirty (and really hot) things done to peaches, an Italian landscape. It'll kill you and put you back together again. And the weirdest thing is that it was written by a straight man. As my friend Eric said, love truly is universal.

I just wish I had an ebook version so that you could all go read it right now.

And because I want to share something. It's cliche. Two supposedly straight men falling in love. But I've gone back and read this at least three times since the first time I read it. It's romance, but it's beautiful and if it was a straight couple I would vomit all over my shoes. But I just want more of these two. There's supposedly two sequels in the works and I personally can't wait.

Day 05 → Your favourite quote

A selection:

"Your church doesn't like alcohol or homosexuals. Hmm...Well, I definitely won't be joining. Can't imagine heaven without both."...Latter Days

"Growing up is the slow process of learning to tell oneself the truth."....The God In Flight (An awesome book as well. I highly recommend it.)

"Reading changes everything. You realize there's more to life than getting drunk and shagging, and you get a different viewpoint. At the same time, other people get a different view of you. You're more respected, maybe. But not better liked."

"The best moments in reading are when you come across something - a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things - which you had thought special and particular to you. And now, here it is, set down by someone else, a person you have never met, someone even who is long dead. And it is as if a hand has come out, and taken yours."...The History Boys

They say, "Evil prevails when good men fail to act." What they should say is, "Evil prevails."....Lord of War

The next time believers tell you that "separation of church and state" does not appear in our founding document, tell them to stop using the word "trinity." The word "trinity" appears nowhere in the bible. Neither does Rapture, or Second Coming, or Original Sin. If they are still unfazed (or unphrased) by this, then add Omniscience, Omnipresence, Supernatural, Transcendence, Afterlife, Deity, Divinity, Theology, Monotheism, Missionary, Immaculate Conception, Christmas, Christianity, Evangelical, Fundamentalist, Methodist, Catholic, Pope, Cardinal, Catechism, Purgatory, Penance, Transubstantiation, Excommunication, Dogma, Chastity, Unpardonable Sin, Infallibility, Inerrancy, Incarnation, Epiphany, Sermon, Eucharist, the Lord's Prayer, Good Friday, Doubting Thomas, Advent, Sunday School, Dead Sea, Golden Rule, Moral, Morality, Ethics, Patriotism, Education, Atheism, Apostasy, Conservative (Liberal is in), Capital Punishment, Monogamy, Abortion, Pornography, Homosexual, Lesbian, Fairness, Logic, Republic, Democracy, Capitalism, Funeral, Decalogue, or Bible.
-- Dan Barker

I don't believe in God because I don't believe in Mother Goose.
-- Clarence Darrow

(If you haven't checked out positiveatheism.org you really should. Awesome collection of quotes. Most of them make me insanely happy. :D)

Day 06 → Whatever tickles your fancy

So two of my favorite bands are releasing new albums next year and they've both posted things in the last week that I've ripped and want to share.

Anthony Raneri the lead singer of Bayside posted this on his myspace. I'm pretty sure it's for his inevitable solo album but the man is amazing and almost every song he writes is gold. The Ballad of Bill the Saint

The Spill Canvas. I've been waiting for this album for so long now. They posted this video on youtube and I ripped it. Parallels and Money (Acoustic in the Kitchen)

Day 07 → A photo that makes you happy

Photobucket

Day 08 → A photo that makes you angry/sad

These pics are more funny than anything else. But the fact that people still rely on such ridiculous things such as religion angers me to no end.

Both pics from Towleroad.

I could post Day 9 too since it technically already is, but I think I've given you enough.
