It seems like I always start to write up posts and then something happens and I never end up finishing them and/or posting them.

  • First some TV notes:
    • Finally caught up on the last three episodes of Merlin. This series has really been boring me. I find myself skipping through episodes or being completely distracted during them. I'm hoping the final episodes will turn into something and bring me back, but at this point I'm really in it to keep up with fandom, which I still love, and for the boys.
    • And I'll be honest...instead of actually watching Episode 10, I just read [livejournal.com profile] frantic_allonsy's recap. I don't like the Arthur/Gwen relationship at all. I have nothing against the canon of it. It's just that the way it's written doesn't really make any sense. I have no idea why those characters would ever want to be together. They have the least to do with each other out of anyone on the show, except maybe Merlin and Uther and even that makes more sense. Not to mention the lack of chemistry just makes their scenes painful and unwatchable. A whole episode of it was a bit more than I could take.
    • FRINGE. Last week's episode was MINDBLOWING. At least for me. I love the mythology on this show and in this episode in particular. As much as I love our Olivia, I don't find the episodes in the alternate universe as compelling. I appreciate what the show is doing with the every other episode scenario, but that universe just doesn't work for me the way it seems to for others out there.
    • For all I'm not a Castle fan, which is to say I don't actually like the show, this season seems to be a lot weaker. I usually can get through the episodes no problem. It's a distraction, but this season I'm finding it very hard to get through them at all. Just wondering what actual fans think of it.
    • A couple weeks ago I spent my days re-watching episodes (okay seasons) of Roseanne on youtube. This week it's Wings. I kind of have this idea to do a where are they now? type of thing for those characters. Because I've always wondered.
    • I am DYING for that Simon Amstell DVD to come out so I can get my hands on a rip of it. I'm pretty sure it will complete my life.

As for RL, it's been kind of up and down lately. Ranty rant rant.  )

I'm trying to ignore all of that insanity and focus on other things. Tomorrow we have to bring Davey to the vet to get fixed, but then it's HARRY POTTER at midnight. Saturday Eve and Dan are coming to stay and then Sunday we're going to the Brooklyn Bowl to see the McLovins play the song they wrote with a couple of the guys from Phish. And then I think we're going to go on a stoney cupcake tour of Brooklyn. Monday I go back to Connecticut for a dentist appointment and Thanksgiving.

I need to stop typing now. And do something productive. Like stare at my desktop, which makes me smile like a loon. :DDDDDD
  • Went to see Iron Man 2 today. In a word, it was AWESOME. Movies based on comic books are one of my favorite things ever. Scarlett Johansson was surprising good and held her own in her fight scenes. Mickey Rourke may turn me off men completely. If you see it in theaters make sure you stay through the ridiculously long credits. Especially if you're a Marvel fan like myself.
  • I want a fic of Brad's reaction to Hammer's version of the Iron Man suit. It was all I could think of during that scene.
  • I'm still pissed off Alex didn't get cast as Thor. I mean seriously who ELSE could play that part? He IS Thor. At least we get some Stellan. Wonder if he'll manage an ass shot. LOL
  • I've been catching up on Fringe and Stargate Universe. Fringe is still insane but insanely awesome at the same time. I still hold in my assessment that it's the best show on television. SGU is still awful.
  • As is Castle. Beckett? STFU & FOD. kthx
  • Is there some kind of wank going on in the Merlin fandom? I haven't been paying attention since like February.
  • I will never get sick of Generation Kill. EVER. Brad and Nate will break me and put me back together forever. ILU BOYS.
  • Don't get jealous Ray. I love you and Walt too.
  • Saw Angels and Airwaves on Saturday night. Tom Delonge will blow my mind forever. And I need to either start going to concerts alone or finding new friends. Ones who actually care and want to be there.
  • CONGRATS TO ALL OF YOU WHO HAVE GRADUATED/WILL BE GRADUATING!
I have a bunch of comments to respond to and a couple entries to write. Perhaps I'll get to them tomorrow.
For some reason I decided the best use of my time today would be to watch the first season of Castle. I knew I shouldn't have done it.

It's so cliche it HURTS.

I hated Beckett within the first 15 minutes and things did not improve much. I'm all for strong female characters, but when you make them all the same it defeats the purpose. I mean really? They can't come up with something other than a dead/murdered parent? It's ridiculous. Not everyone becomes a cop because of that. You want to know why my mom became one? Because the men in the department didn't think she could do it. The fact that one of them was probably her current husband is another story. But she did it and at the age of 35.

Shows like this are the reason I don't do het anymore. Sure throw in some sexual tension between the leads. Everyone loves that. Wrong. I don't love that. You're insulting the audience. I know it's hard to believe, but we ARE smarter than that. I'd love to see one of these shows where the leads are both male or both female and then throw in that sexual tension. But I doubt we'd ever see that on American TV. But that's a different rant.

Maybe it's because I'm still bitter about Crossing Jordan, but that show took these cliches and made them WORK. Or Jill Hennessy is a better actress. I don't know. Her character was more unique, that's for sure.

I'm gonna start Season 2. See if things change any. The only reason I keep watching is because of Jon and all the guests who make me facepalm. Oh TV you make me laugh.

Oh and a funny tidbit. The actress who plays Castle's mom? Her name is the same as when my mom was married to my dad. It always makes me LOL.

EDIT: I completely forgot one of the biggest things that bothers me. This is supposed to be NYC. I know it's filmed in LA but come on! The fact that it feels nothing like New York takes me completely out of the show at times. There's no seasons, no weather, nothing. If you're gonna make a show that's based in NYC please fucking film it there. It will make a difference and we can tell.
